Club training update – November 2021

We’ve been busy behind the scenes planning the next stages of our journey out of COVID. We would like to personally thank everyone at the leisure centre, on the committee, volunteers and council for all their efforts at what’s been a challenging time. Now we have lots to look forward to and this email will update you on our next steps.

NEW TRAINING PROCEDURES FROM NOV 1st

  • Changing.
    • Changing rooms will be available before and after sessions. HOWEVER
    • Swimmers should still arrive beach ready to spend a minimal amount of time in the changing rooms.
    • Swimmers should arrive no more than 10minutes early for a session and be ready 5 minutes before the session.
    • The swimmers will wait around the shower areas for the first sessions each night as per pre-C19 times
    • Members arriving for the later sessions should congregate near the windows on the lagoon area
    • Swimmers should remember their code of conduct that they have to follow as a member of the club https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vRKr99Hq79KDU0ElTtecAmB6v3suy18RuOjPvTzm2O6nVOKLftff4R1dqsKU2mZ72MSYecVlrn7vhyJ/pub
  • Spectators.
    • Spectators will be allowed back on sessions at both sites and we understand some of you will want to see how your child is progressing. BUT we would encourage you not to attend unless necessary to manage numbers at the venue.
    • If you do want to come you should arrive onto the viewing area no more than 5minutes before the start of a session.
    • The club and the centre reserve the right to refuse access should numbers be too high for a session.
    • Parents should refresh themselves on the parental code of conduct https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vRv1BlPy0EaHot4zE7fccLbYE336ePOLONC64KpZdRVhaR_BO3ajftPiVtaJzDdmWEmAz3j2_PFgfdk/pub
  • Social distancing.
    • At the time of writing masks are encouraged to be worn by users of the centre
    • Spectating spaces should be cleaned after use by those using the area
    • This guidance may change depending on the PHE guidance at the time
    • Members should not enter the viewing area until the other centre users have started to vacate

NEW TIMETABLE FROM NOV 1st

The changes are as follows:

  • Friday evening training will cease from W/C 1st November
    • This has been cancelled due to poor attendance, competitions requiring the sessions to be cancelled and opportunities available for members at other sites.
    • Dryside training will be scheduled in this transition period by working with NSSFC and NLC
  • Tuesday evening training will become available at Bedale for Bedale based juniors and Senior Squad members
    • This will provide additional capacity for our Bedale juniors and enhance their opportunities.
    • It will also allow Senior Squad members to access much needed diving provision. This will come at no extra charge to Senior Squad members
    • Session runs from 7.30 to 9pm
  • Thursday evening sessions at Bedale will be extended
    • 1.5 hour sessions offer more opportunity to develop skills and provide more dynamic sets
    • Existing groups will extend to 1.5 hour sessions
  • The creation of a new Senior Group (in purple below) will be starting. Members will be contacted over the coming week to invite them to this session.
  • Many Junior Otters currently train on a Wednesday evening. This arrangement will be maintained throughout this transition period. If they can attend on a Monday night this would be preferred.

A full training calendar is below for the transition period 1st November to 31st December:

NEW TRAINING PROGRAMME FROM JAN 1st 2022

Many of our swimmers have been working hard despite the disruption and are ready for a new challenge. Therefore the coaching team have created a new training programme AND are developing a new squad structure to help develop skills and fitness.

The core aim of the changes to the squad structure is provide opportunity and simplification that aligns more with Swim England’s training and competition guidance. However we hope that whether members swim to compete, for fitness or just for enjoyment, there will be a chance to progress through squads to suit their needs.

More information about these changes will be shared over the coming weeks as coaches continue to assess swimmers through competition and training events.
