As you will all now be more than aware there is significant redevelopment to Hambleton Leisure Centre over the coming months which will involve
- New state-of-the-art fitness suite extension that doubles the current workout space to include a toning studio, accessible toilet and changing area and 24 hour gym access
- Remodelling of the dry female and male members’ changing areas and toilets
- Remodelling of the pool changing village
- Remodelling of a multi-purpose spinning studio and dance studio
- New platform lift
- Sports Hall refurbishment
- Essential maintenance works to the poolside.
These developments will allow us as club members to have a greatened experience in training with the club at the centre including taking benefits from the remodelled changing room and studio facilities. Further information about the refurbishment is available on the council’s website
Due to the essential maintenance in various areas we have the following known closures that will affect club training at Hambleton Leisure Centre.
Sports Hall – Phase 1
The Sports Hall will be closed for refurbishment for a period of six weeks from 24 July 2017 until 2 September 2017.
This of course will affect our usage of the sports hall for dry side training. For the interim dry side sessions will continue to run outside, in the event of inclement weather we will utilise spaces on poolside for conditioning exercises.
Swimming Pool – Phase 2
The Swimming Pool will be closed for essential maintenance works from 4 September 2017 until 27 October 2017 (8 weeks Closure). This of course is going to have a large impact on our training.
We had hoped that we would be able to remain training throughout the renovation periods, however due to the nature of the works being undertaken there is a risk of contamination of the pool water and a safety risk to swimmers (there is even talks of the pool being drained which would provide a tricky training set up).
Sam and I have worked incredibly closely with Hambleton District Council to ensure that there is a provision in place for this 8-week closure to ensure that our training goes largely unaffected. Due to the nature of the move we have had to prioritise training groups based on competitions that are throughout this closure period. Furthermore, we have worked with other local swimming clubs to provide training opportunities at other centres. The attached training map has been established to provide opportunities
To allow members to commute to the various locations we will set up a Facebook closed group to provide parents with a facility to arrange lift shares and support with transport. The club is not responsible for swimmers transport to or from training but we feel obliged to ensure that a communication portal is available for members to utilise to support the clubs training patterns during this time.
The pool will remain closed to general swimming from 28th October 2017 through to 24th November 2017 but we will have unrestricted access to the pool for our training purposes. During this period, the current changing village will be remodelled providing a much better atmosphere for members once complete. There will be restricted changing facilities during this time, we ask that members where possible come to training changed ready to swim and endeavour to have showers once they have returned home.
Due to the nature of the other building works going on around the centre we have taken the decision to move our club championships to Bedale Leisure Centre to provide a suitable experience for our swimmers. The dates remain the same but timing slightly changed: –
- Sunday 8thOctober – 2.00 for 2.30
- Sunday 15thOctober – 2.00 for 2.30
- Sunday 12thNovember – 2.00 for 2.30
- Sunday 19thNovember – 2.00 for 2.30
Our presentation evening will remain unaffected to be held at The Forum, Northallerton on the 1st December
As I am sure you will all appreciate this is going to be a turbulent time for all members at the club and the dedicated coaching team who provide sessions for the constituent members. I ask that any questions about the clubs’ operation during this period are sent to the committee mailbox email@example.com to allow members to respond to your questions and queries.
I thank you for your ongoing support of the club during this period. I apologise for not being able to share this information with you sooner, but as I am sure that you appreciate this has been a complex plan to pull together from both the NASC and Hambleton District Council’s perspectives. We will continue to work together with the council throughout this development process keeping you informed of relevant information and timescales as the work progresses.
