Northallerton ASC competes in various competitions throughout the year. Information has been added to this page for the use of members and parents to understand the various levels of competitions. Further information about each fixture can be obtained through the coaches and Competitions Secretary via the Club email address. For the purpose of explanation they have been split into the following categories

  • In House
  • League/Friendlies
  • Individual Meets

In House
In House competitions provide a friendly atmosphere for swimmers to get used to a competitive environment. They also
allow swimmers to gain times which can then be used for entry into other types of galas. All our In-House events rely on volunteers for all jobs as well as for providing raffle prizes. If you feel you can help in any way, do not hesitate to say so – if not, come along anyway and enjoy the atmosphere!

Club Championships
Information These are held every year over two separate days to cover all age groups.

Every single swimmer in the Club is encouraged to enter as many events as they possibly can.

Medals are awarded to all swimmers and a trophy is given for the girl & boy who score the most points over the two days. Points are awarded according to the position attained in each race.

These championships provide an opportunity for swimmers to gain competition experience in a Club environment and can also be the spur to getting that new personal best (PB) time. They also provide an opportunity to see swimmers at all levels of ability compete. This is particularly useful to new members, who can get an idea of what they may be capable of in the future.

Age is as of 31st October

Entry Information Entries are taken online; please keep an eye on the website fixtures page. Usually entries will be accepted from the end of the summer holidays. Whilst we appreciate early entries, we’ll always try to accommodate people who have second thoughts and want to join in!!

Time Trials
Information These are not strictly competitions, but are arranged to find out what your latest times are. Some competitions require that you meet a qualifying time and time trials can give you the chance to achieve this. Most external competitions require that you submit your time for each event that you enter and that those times have to be validated by a Club Official. This is a Swim England requirement which then ensures that you are fairly entered into the heat that reflects your standard of swimming.
Entry Information If you wish to enter a competition but do not have a recorded time, please speak to your coach.

League Galas and Friendlies
Northallerton ASC are affiliated to the Moors Swim Squad which allows us to compete against and with each other throughout the season with a key focus on collaboration.

Most galas take place on a Saturday afternoon/evening and last approximately 2.5 hours, excluding travelling time. Warm up usually commences 30 minutes before
the start time. The Team Manager will inform the children about the races they are to swim. After certain league fixtures there may be social events organized such as going to the beach or for a meal.

It is up to the parent to ensure that the swimmer has enough to drink, with small amounts of food to eat after warm up or between events.

The Clubs currently in the league are

  • Northallerton ASC
  • Stokesley ASC
  • Eston ASC
  • Guisborough ASC
  • Saltburn and Marske ASC
Moors League Team Events
Information The teams in the league compete against each other in a league run competition where the teams send their best squads and aim to get the highest place points in the season. Swimmers are asked to attend by members of the coaching team. There will usually be 6 league galas plus a final, of which Northallerton ASC will be asked to attend 4 plus the final. The final of the league is usually held at Eston as it is a six lane pool. Swimmers may be asked to compete in individual races and relay races. Swimmers will be expected to swim in a minimum of 2 races at a gala.
Entry Information The swim coaches will email swimmers if they have been selected for a team on a certain date. Teams for all inter-club galas are chosen by the individual League Managers. If you are not selected, don’t despair. Every effort is made during the year to use as many swimmers as possible so that they may then enter the League Championships at the end of the year.

Moors League Ability/Individual Events
Information Similar to the other league competitions, there will usually be all clubs in attendance. Swimmers will be competing for times either to attain badges or personal bests. The ability gala is open to all in the Club and the times for each stroke/distance can be found on our website. Swimmers who have competed in the Moors League in the season will be invited to swim at the Moors League individual gala.
Entry Information Usually £1 per event for Ability Gala. Usually £1.50 per event for the Indivduals Gala. Entries taken through the online entry system.

Friendly Galas
Information The Club tries to arrange at least two ‘friendly’ competitions during the year. These are designed for the swimmers who are not yet up to League Gala standard. In order to ensure that the true spirit of a Friendly is adhered to, strict maximum times are applied to each race in these galas. Swimmers who exceed these times will be disqualified.
Entry Information Whilst we make every effort to ask as many swimmers as possible to take part in these competitions, we are only human and do forget people! We encourage you to make your interest known to the Competitions Secretary if you would like to take part in a Friendly gala. Participation is encouraged from all Club members aged 8 and over.

Individual

There are myriad individual competitions available for swimmers to enter throughout the year. The Club endorses a minimum of six which
the Club will promote to swimmers and will deal with entries. To avoid confusion, for the Club endorsed events, please ensure any entries
you wish to make are through the Club. Once you have completed your Gala Entry Form and paid the requisite fee (there’s a charge per event, usually £4-£6), all the entries
will be sent off to the Club responsible for the competition. The host club will confirm entry acceptance to our Competitions Secretary.

Where competitions have an entry criteria (eg. specific times such as graded meets detailed below), details will be taken from the Club database. No Club official will sign for entry times that cannot be validated. Times which have been achieved whilst not swimming for NASC can be entered in the database subject to satisfactory evidence being provided.
Entries can be made prior to Category 2 registration being completed – please ask at the Club Desk for information.

Graded Meets
Information This is a type of handicap system operated so that most swimmers have a chance to win. The competitions are graded A, B or C. Any swimmer with a time slower than the quoted cut off time for that particular competition enter the relevant grade. If a swimmer swims particularly well and beats the cut off time by a specified margin (usually 2 seconds), he/she will be given a ‘Speeding Ticket’ instead of a medal/trophy. These Speeding Tickets should be regarded as prize possessions as they mean that the swimmer is ready for higher grade and Open competitions. Some competitions are multi-grade. In this case a swimmer’s times are entered and the organisers arrange the swimmers into the correct grade. To enter each grade, the swimmer must have achieved a certain cut off or qualifying time for the event.
Entry Information Enter Online. Due to the large number of entries for such competitions, it is important to plan ahead. Some entry forms might be required up to two months in advance of a competition date.

Open Meets
Information These are competitions hosted by a club, where swimmers must submit personal entry forms to compete. The NASC fixture List will identify which Open Competitions the coaches would expect members with qualifying times to enter. At these events you will be competing against other swimmers from other clubs and districts. The times you achieve may be recognised for entry into Regional and National events. If a swimmer were to achieve a county record time, they or their parents should obtain a County Record Form from a Club coach. They should complete the form and send it to the County Records Secretary together with a copy of the official result sheet that confirms the time, date, venue and event. County Records must be claimed within three months of the swim.

County/Regional/National Meets
Information These are for swimmers aged 10 years and above and are held annually. Most recently the meets have been shared by Ponds Forge (Sheffield), Leeds and Sunderland. The Club encourages all members who make the qualifying times to enter. The Competitions Secretary will check all PBs prior to the last entry date for the competition and will inform any swimmers who have qualified. The County Championships also include team relay events in age groups, which you may be asked to compete in, even if you are not swimming in individual events. The County Championships, Regional and National Championships take place over several weekends throughout the year.
Entry Information To enter these competitions, look out for emailed entry forms which are sent some time before the event. Completed entries must be returned by the date shown.
